Top Gun 2012

Posted on June 12, 2012 at 12:40 AM

This 5 day event is a competition for the top builders and pilots in the world. There are 5 different competitive classes which all include scale aircraft from civilian to military models. Not only do the models need to represent an actual full scale aircraft, they are also judged by how scale the aircraft are flown by the pilot.

The weather was fantastic with the winds straight down the runway 90% of the time. One of the most interesting models there was the A-6. This model is not only an unusual one to see, it was scratch built. All the way down to the landing gear. It was one of my favorites from the event. All of the models there were beautiful and the craftmanship was amazing. Check out the photo gallery. The August 2012 issue of Model Airplane News magazine was just released with the full article which includes my photos. The photos I have uploaded here are only a fraction of what I took. I agree Dave. It was a work of art, and a marvel of innovation and ingenuity.
